The Patients Voice team provides an online resource for patients, caregivers, friends and family members of people who have or are about have a liver transplant. About Liver Transplants
A liver transplant (also called a hepatic transplantation) is the surgical replacement of a dysfunctional liver with a healthy liver or, at least, a portion of it.

Once transplanted the healthy liver (or part thereof) can grow to a regular sized liver. In most cases the liver is donated by a deceased person (this is called an orthotropic transplantation). In rare cases living persons may donate part of their liver to a patient. Typically the donor will be a family member.

Liver transplants are now a reasonably common operation. Most recipients carry on a normal life after the transplant operation. A heptologist (liver transplant physician) uses liver transplantation in cases of untreatable liver malfunction.
It should be noted that some diseases prohibit a successful liver transplantation.
